FEATURED TEAM: 13U ALL-AMERICAN SPORTS ACADEMY

All American Sports Academy is a relatively new baseball program in Northern California.  Their first baseball team, a 12-U team, officially organized in August of 2006.  The 12-U team had a very successful first season, dominating Northern California baseball teams in USSSA, BPA, Super Series, and Triple Crown tournaments.  The 2007 12-U team capped off the season by beating a tough Headfirst Gamers in the USSSA Summer Championship and Club All Star in the BPA Summer Championship.  All American continued on to Cooperstown Dreams Park and competed with the toughest teams around in “Championship Week”.  They finished in a very respectable tie for 5th place in the tough field of 96, after losing to Team Anderson in the “Elite 8”.

In September of 2007, the All American 13-U continued where they left off.  They competed in 11 sanctioned tournaments between September and December and took first place in 9 of them.  In December, they won the USSSA Norcal Winter Championship over the NorCal Grizzlies.

Since January 2008, All American Sports Academy has played 8 games against TBS Top 25 ranked teams and has an impressive record of 6-2.  Four of the six wins were by way of mercy rule.

All American Sports Academy put it all together at the Colorado Super NIT, dominating the weekend tournament.  The Championship game was played against a very well coached Bullet Red Baseball, out of Louisiana, who was listed as an Honorable Mention by TBS.  The All American 13-U won the game in 5 innings by a score of 9-1.

Since winning the Elite 24 Berth, All American Sports Academy 13-U has been on an impressive streak of 1st place finishes.  First, they won the Northern California State Championship against TBS #21 ranked California Sting Outlaws.  They followed it up by “playing up” in the 14-U division and beat TBS Honorable Mention Lamorinda Generals in the semi’s and then winning the “Tournament of Champions” against EJ’s Sports Titans.  They finished the month of June by again “playing up” in the 14-U division and winning the Championship against a tough Salinas Fog.  All American Sports Academy will continue “playing up” as they prepare for the 2008 Elite 24.

All American 13-U only carries 11 players on their roster and they are the same 11 players you will see competing in Florida.  These boys and families have dedicated themselves to stay with the team throughout their High School years.  There are four players from All American 13-U listed as “players to watch”, Mark Mathias, Ivan Sanchez, Tanner Turner, and Jake Villa.  Here’s a look at all of the players:

Adrian Banuelos: (5’10” 190lbs. Bats R)  3rd/P- Nicknamed the “Bambino”.  Clean up hitter that drives in a ton of runs.

Jovan Findley: (5’7” 130 lbs. Bats L)  1st/C- Shut down at 1st base and great hitter from the left side.

Chris Flexen:  (5’8” 150 lbs Bats R)  P/Utl-  Takes control of the game on the mound.  Great glove on the field.

Mark Mathias:  (5’8” 135 lbs. Bats R) Mid infield/P-  An absolute vacuum on the field.  Powerful pitcher.  Excellent lead off hitter.

Jordan Paroubeck:  (5’5” 115 lbs. Bats Switch) OF- Great speed and range in the outfield.  Hits well from both sides.

Ivan Sanchez:  (5’9” 175 lbs. Bats R) P/C- Extremely strong.  Power pitcher and hitter.  Balls explode off his bat.

Andrew Telly:  (5’6” 135 lbs. Bats Switch) 3rd/Utl- A threat from either side of the plate.  3rd base is his spot, but will play wherever he’s needed.

Collin Theroux:  (5’11” 155 lbs. Bats R) C/Utl- Tough as nails catcher.  Emotional leader of the team.

Tanner Turner:  (5’8” 150lbs Bats R) SS/OF- Triple threat.  Excellent bat, glove and speed.  That says it all.  Should play Varsity as Freshman.

Jose Vasquez:  (5’10” 165 lbs Bats R) P/OF- Leader in the outfield.  Cannon for an arm.  Ultimate teammate.

Jake Villa:  (5’8” 145 lbs. Bats R) P/Utl- Can play anywhere on the field.  Offensive threat of power and speed .

Following in the success of the 13U team, All American formed a 12U team that hit the Norcal circuit only four months ago.  Already, the 12U team is seeing success as they have won 3 championships in this short period.  The team is well rounded, being led by, Jordan Kron, who is hitting .570, with an era of 0.70.  Other standout players include Jacob Regester, Robbie Buentello, and Alec Barba.  The team will be playing in two more tournaments in Norcal to prepare for their trip to Cooperstown in July.  You can expect this team to follow in the footsteps of the 13's and compete against the top teams in the country.  An 11-U team is now in the works.

TravelBallSelect recognizes the success of this new organization and hopes they mature to develop the number of talented players in the state of California.
