2008 13U Coral Springs Diamonds Print E-mail
13U Coral Springs Diamonds diamonds20team20picture20triple20crown20natls.jpgThe Coral Springs Diamonds are a highly competitive 13u Travel Baseball Club. This Diamond team is a 3rd generation club from a very well respected organization formed in 1999 by manager Butch Kopec of Coral Springs, FL.  Diamond players are expected to play the game to a very high standard. In addition to having good baseball skills, the players respect the integrity of the game, are good teammates and play hard with sportsmanship and class. The current Diamonds ball club started playing together in January 2007.  The players were a combination of holdovers from the Diamond’s second team, players on a feeder team that was formed in 2006 and other star players from the South Florida area. The Diamonds started playing local South Florida tournaments and won the Flanagan Holiday Bash, Mad Dog Mayhem and FPBL Pre-Season tournaments.    The Diamonds early success continued in a large, regional Triple Crown tournament in February made up of the top teams in the South Florida.  They defeated the nationally ranked local team, Tamiami Rangers, from Miami in the finals. In the following months the Diamonds won a Triple Crown Tournament in Kissimmee, won a USSSA Memorial Day tournament and played in the competitive FPBL league, winning the major division and playoff tournament. The Diamonds moved on to Cooperstown in week #3 where they had wins against the Cincy Flames and East Cobb Astros on their way to a championship game loss to the Rocket City Stingers 6-3. The Diamonds finished out the summer with a win at the USSSA Florida State Championships in Kissimmee, FL.   The fall season began in September and the Diamonds did not miss a beat.  They started by winning an AAU tournament in Stuart, FL and then the St. Augustine, Florida Fall Nationals Triple Crown Tournament.  Seeding 1st after pool play, the Diamonds coasted into the finals and defeated a very good PPO Bengal team from Pembroke Pines, FL. The Coral Springs Diamonds Baseball Club ended 2007 with wins in 14 of 16 tournaments and a record of 111 wins and 12 losses.   The 2008 Diamonds roster consists of Ryan Richman (P, OF, IF), Brandon Diaz (SS, OF), Derek Fritz (C, 3B, P), Casey Kopec (P, OF), Billy Atkins (P, C, 3B, 1B), Alex Seibold (OF, P), Drew Rangel (P, 1B), Jordan Budwig (P, 3B), Stephen Kerr (P, C, OF, IF), KJ Mayo (2B, OF), Trevor Kane (P, 3B, 1B) Stevie Marcum (OF, P, C, IF) and part time player Chucky Lopez (P, 3B). The Diamond coaches are manager Butch Kopec, coaches Keith Mayo, Jorge Rangel, Steve Richman and Steve Marcum.  2008 Diamond goals include a trip to the Elite 24 in August. They have committed to attend the Michigan Elite NIT in June and will defend their Triple Crown Fall National title in October. The Diamonds are presently playing in the 14U division in the Florida Premier Baseball League and will play mostly USSSA and Triple Crown 13U tournaments this spring and summer. They have compiled a 13u record of 55-4 (9-1vs 14u teams) and have won the first 2 tournaments they entered in 2008 running their streak to 10 in a row. Travel Ball Select has rated the Diamonds high for very good reason.  TBS will continue to monitor their progress and keep other national powers aware of their progress.  They are not a team of the future, they are a team to reckon with now.
