12U Cooperstown NATC - Finals Preview PDF Print E-mail
August 28, 2008: Cooperstown, New York Dreams Park

It is now official, the “Final Four” games are complete and the NATC finals match-up is determined.  The #4 seed, TEAM TBS of Atlanta, Georgia will take on the #2 seed Boys of Baseball National Travel Team of Alabama tonight in a game that will decide who will be the 2008 NATC Champions.

"Final Four" Review
“TEAM TBS” earned their spot by beating TEAM Anderson (CA) by a final score of 12-0 in today’s “Final Four” play. This game was a re-match of teams that had played earlier in pool play.  TEAM TBS won that game 14-4.  While TEAM Anderson had hoped for revenge, they were not prepared for this opponent who came in with a complete game - starting with outstanding pitching, solid defense, followed by the same power offense that they have shown throughout this tournament.  Team TBS once again got multiple home runs from three different players, including a grand slam that put them up 10-0. placing the game out of reach in the bottom of the 4th.

The Boys of Baseball National Travel Team win had the same ending, but a slightly different story.  The BB Nationals jumped up early to grab a 10-1 lead after two innings.  From there, they never looked back as they continued to pile on runs.  While the ASD Bulldogs managed to add a run in the 3rd, followed by two more runs in the top of the 4th, the Boys of Baseball always had answers.  In the bottom of the 4th, they slammed home runs that put the game away with a 16-4 score.

Championship Game Preview
Looking ahead to tonight’s finals, these two teams have proven that they are very evenly matched.  Offensively TEAM TBS may hold a slight edge as they have out scored their opponents by 144-10 in pool play while getting 44 home runs from 10 different players.  In Bracket matchups, TEAM TBS has scored 45 runs while giving up only 2 runs.  Thus, look for TEAM TBS to come into tonight’s game with all their offensive and defensive guns fully loaded.

But the Boys of Baseball have built a similar record as they outscored their opponents 134-8 in pool play with 25 home runs from 11 different players.  In Bracket play, they have outscored opponents 53-7 getting home runs from top to bottom of their line-up.

This should be one of the best NATC Championship games ever.  Look for good pitching on both sides from start to finish.  This game will feature some of the very best 12U pitchers in the country going against great hitters that will come to the plate – batter after batter.

Stay tuned for updates.  The NATC Championship game is set for the opening pitch at 8:00pm tonight.
