12U Cooperstown NATC - Final Four Matchups PDF Print E-mail
August 28, 2008: Cooperstown, New York Dreams Park

The “Final Four” teams are now determined.  Here is how the “Elite Eight” games turned out

 The “Elite Eight” teams faced off at noon today:
The #4 seed TEAM TBS shut out the#5 Encinitas Reds by a score of 6-0.  Brett Henderson pitched a “NO HITTER” as he went the distance on the mound for TBS.  Brett threw only 78 pitches as he mixed up and varied the type of pitches he delivered.  Excellent infield and outfield defense shut down a very good Encinitas offense that had already scored 92 runs in pool play, and 26 runs in bracket play.   TEAM TBS offense was lead by Nate Rodriguez and David Boyle who each delivered 2xRBI HRs.

The #6 ASD Bulldogs (CA) edged past the #14 seed Minnesota Baseball Academy 5-3.  The Bulldogs got HRs from Daniel Beaky, Justin Fowler; Ryan Randel, and Brett Sebade.  Kevin Cunningham delivered an outstanding performance on the mound for the Bulldogs, striking out 7 batters.

The #2 Boys of Baseball National Travel Team slugged their way past the #7 Long Beach Dirtbags by a score of 14-2. This game was close through the top of the 5th, when the Boys of Baseball retired Long Beach and came to bat with a 4-2 lead.  They then exploded, blasting 10 runs in the bottom of the 5th as six different players delivered HRs to close out the game.  These players were; Carter Toth, Justin Goree, Hernando Sierra, Rel Johnson, James "Buddy" Harbuelz, and Jason Martin.

The #16 seed, TEAM Anderson (CA) continued to hit, play defense, and get good pitching as they upset the Placentia Mustangs by a score of 8-4.  TEAM Anderson jumped to a 6-2 lead after three innings and added 2 more runs in the top of the 4th to hold build an 8-2 lead. From there, they had to hold off a Mustang rally in the bottom of the 6th allowing only two runs by the Mustangs.  TEAM Anderson got a home run from Bryan Menendez; The Placentia Mustangs got HRs from Edgar Morales and Isaiah Solomon.

Looking ahead to the “Final Four” match-ups;
The
#16 seed TEAM Anderson will get a re-match with #4 TEAM TBS.  In their first meeting in pool play, TEAM TBS won by a score of 14-4.  But, TEAM Anderson has picked up from that point and they have not lost a game since.  Look for this game to be another duel between pitchers.  With good pitching, anything can happen.  Clearly, TEAM Anderson is motivated and seeking revenge.

In the 2nd game of the “Final Four”, the #2 seed Boys of Baseball National Travel Team (AL) will go against the #6 ASD Bulldogs (CA).  Neither team has lost a game this week.

Stay tuned for updates on the “Final Four” match-ups.  These games will start at 3:00pm today.
