12U Cooperstown NATC - Day 2 Review Print E-mail

NATC week has now completed its 2nd day of pool play as we continue to look at teams that are emerging and strengthen their power ratings in terms of “Total Run Differential”.  Looking at teams that are ranking highest after two days (four games), we see some powerful teams emerging, and some changes in the top 10:

The National Boys of Baseball continues to lead in terms of total “Runs Scored” and “Run Differential”.  Today, they shut down both the Long Island Cougars and the Long Island Baymen by scores of 18-0 and 13-0, respectively.  They did this with excellent hitting from top to bottom of their entire batting lineup.  This included a 3-HR performance by Justin Goree, along with 2-Home Runs from Justin Bellinger, Carter Toth, Karl Blum.  In addition Kel Johnson also connected with a Home Run.

TEAM TBS made a huge move upward today, closing the gap on the National Boys of Baseball (from yesterday's 12 to only 3 runs) after today's play.  They also benefited from excellent hitting from top to bottom of their lineup.  This included home runs from Grayson Ivey and Jake Barfield who each had 3 Home Runs, while Jerrod Hancock, Kevin Wade, David Boyle, and Carrington Bell all connected on a Home Run.

In addition, the Long Beach Nomads continued playing with power by shutting out TEAM New Jersey 12-0, and moving past the Smithton Bulls by a score of 12-1.  The Nomads got two home runs from Dom Smith hit along with Homers from Aaron Vilaubi, Isahiah Gonzales, Jason Epsin, and Jacob Lechuga. In other highlights of the day, Noah Rosenberg of the Akadema Bulldogs connected on 4 big HR’s helping his Bulldogs move past the Hanover Heat 29-10,  In addition Joe Fisco and Marco Rima each hit 2 HR's. Also, Phoenix Dechamps, Cole Creighton both hit a HR.  The Big Hitters for the Heat were; Eli Matthews hit 2 HR's. Johnny Lovic, Luke Nigo, Nick Freelander, and Hunter Williams - who all hit a HR’s. 

In the Akadema Bulldogs second game today, the added a second big win over the West Los Angeles Wave by a score of 19-0.  In this game, they got Home Runs from Dylan Evert, Jon Avallone, and Phoenix DeChamps. These two performances today moved Akadema all the way from 10th rank yesterday to 4th after days play. 

In other action, the Encinitas Reds held the ground at 5th place (in terms of their “Run Differential” power ranking) with an 18-1 win over the “Seattle Sockeyes”, and later 16-4 win over the “Brick Americans”.  In the game against Seattle, the Reds got Home Runs from Julian Gonzales, Riley Adams, and Anthony Barderas.  These two performances moved the Reds from.

Pool play wraps up tomorrow.  Stay tuned for more analysis of how teams are performing in terms of indicators that can suggest the power to make it to the sweet sixteen and beyond.
