That’s the day Encinas turns 13, and that’s the day of the championships for the 12-and-under age group at the National Youth Baseball Championships at Gameday’s First Tennessee Fields.
But for now, he’ll have to settle for putting his Norwalk Stingrays from Encinas gave up just one run in four innings, and the Stingrays got by the Gresham Park Yard Dogs of Atlanta, 6-2, to improve to 2-0 in the tournament. In his four innings, the lefty Encinas gave up just four hits and one walk while striking out two. “He threw strikes,” Stingrays head coach Rudy Casillas said. “It’s always good when your pitcher throws strikes because we have a good defense behind him that can make plays.”
The Stingrays got on the board with three runs in the first inning off a fielder’s-choice groundout by Tyler Alamo and RBI singles by Frank Rios and Tyler Adkison. Ricky Brito and Rios then added RBI singles in the next two innings to make it a five-run game, and The Yard Dogs got their only two runs on a couple of fly balls, but they hit the ball hard – only problem is it was usually right at Stingrays.
