12U NYBC Results - Lexington squeezes the Juice Print E-mail

- by Ernie Rapiere

August 22, 2008 – Cordova, Tennessee, NYBC Nationals:  The Babe Ruth 12U Champions from Lexington, Kentucky defeated the AAU National Champion Juice 12’s from Orlando, Florida by a score of 7-6.

The lead switch hands six times during the closely contested game.  The juice took an early lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Drew Sithe singled to drive in a run.  But Lexington answered with three runs in the top of the 3rd when Tyler Wagoner slamed a 2xRBI double off center the field wall.

The Juice showed their tenacity when they answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd.  Nolan Dyals hit a 2xRBI single to tie the score at 3-3.

Both teams scored a run in each of their at bats during the fourth inning to keep the score tied at 4-4 going into the 5th.  But the Juice took the lead in the bottom of the 5th when Nolan Dyal doubled and stole 3rd base.  At that point, Michael Ray reached first on a loose strike 3 pitch that also allowed Dyal to steal home, giving the Juice a 5-4 lead going into the final inning.

But Lexington came to bat in the top of the 6th and scored runs to take a 7-5 lead with a 2xRBI hit from Devin Hariston.  This proved to be the difference in the game as the Juice could only answer with 1 run in their final at bat.  This run was generated from a base hit by Forest Walls - that was followed with an RBI single from Jordan Parnell.  From that point, Lexington’s defense which has been their team strength all year, stepped up and shut down the powerful Juice offense.

Says Coach Ken Jackson, “ We got great in field and outfield play today, and that proved to be the difference in the game. Tyler Wagoner came in to pitch and threw stikes - and this let our defense do what they do best”.

Lexington moves on to face the Germantown Giants tonight, while the Juice will face off against Blossom Valley, California.  The two top teams in each pool A and B will move on to the Championship rounds on Sunday.
