At the National Youth Baseball Championships at Gameday’s First Tennessee Fields, Corrales pitched lights out in four innings and was a handful at the plate for his 12-and-under team from At the plate, Corrales contributed a couple of RBI singles for his team’s surging offense. On the mound, he pitched four shutout innings, giving up just three hits without issuing a walk and striking out six. “He threw strikes,” Stingrays head coach Rudy Casillas said. “You can’t ask any more of a pitcher than for him to throw strikes and let the defense play behind him.” The Stingrays, playing their first game of the inaugural, four-day tournament, racked up six runs in the first to blow the game open early. Tyler Adkison, Tyler Alamo and Corrales each brought in runs and the Stingrays walked four times to open up the scoring.
In the second inning, after a Corrales RBI, Gary James hit a two-run double and, in the third, Alamo connected with a two-run homer to give Norwalk its 10th and 11th run of the game.
The NYBC pins together the top team in eight different youth baseball organizations in two different age groups – 10-and-under and 12-and-under. The 10U Stingrays were representing the USSSA, and the Astros were from the NABF.
