12U NATC Preview - Cooperstown Dreams Park: TEAM TBS - Part 3 of 3 Print E-mail
August 21, 2008: Cooperstown, New YorkTEAM TBS brings a powerful line-up of talent.

Part 3 of 3 Following is part 3 of this 3 part series on TEAM TBS.  While part one covered the team background and the coaches, part 2 and part 3 of this series of articles introduces the 11 players that will make up TEAM TBS at Cooperstown Dreams Park, NATC Championship week.  Here is a brief sketch that completes our introduction of the eleven players – with athletes names continued in alphabetical order.

Brett Henderson of San Diego, California, began playing travel ball as a nine-year-old for the San Diego STARS.  At the age of twelve, he moved to the Red Wings, now the Huntington Beach Nitro Elite.  He pitches and plays outfield.  Brett is an excellent student who loves the challenges of math and science and applies himself in his studies the way he applies himself in his sports.  He loves basketball and plays in travel leagues nearly year-round.  His favorite MLB player is Ryan Howard.  Brett admires his soft-spoken nature and his ability to hit to all points on the field.  A key highlight in Brett’s 2008 season was pitching a perfect 8-0, four-inning game against the Nomads in tournament semifinals of the Memorial Day Super NIT.

Grayson Ivey is from Winder Georgia and played for the Terminators 12U team in 2008. Grayson is a big tall kid with a great heart that enjoys the game of baseball and the people that he meets along the way. Grayson spends most of his time at 1st base and on the mound for his Terminators team. Grayson had a couple very memorable moments this year.  One key memory occurred in the 2008 Elite 24 World Series where Grayson pitched a 1 hitter, striking out 9, in 5 1/3 innings against the talented Norwalk Stingrays at the Elite 24. The other was hitting 3 HRs on the final day of the Alabama Super NIT with the Terminators. His most memorable baseball moment to date was winning the 2007 Cooperstown Dreams Park NATC championship with his team mates and coaches. Grayson is an honor role student and an officer for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at his school, he also plays basketball for his middle school team and enjoys bass fishing, deer hunting and just about anything to that involves competing against his older brother. Grayson's favorite MLB player is David Wright because of his defensive abilities and mechanics at the plate.

Matt Jervis lives in San Diego, California and plays for coach Wes Etheridge and the HB Nitro Elite 12U team.  Matt plays both SS and 2B, but primarily played SS this year for coach Etheridge.  Some key moments to remember from this season include his team receiving their berth in the Elite 24 World Series in Orlando and going 2-3 at the plate with the game winning RBI against the Norwalk Stingrays during a 1-0 semi-final win in the Southern California State Tournament.  Matt is an excellent student who has been on the Honor Roll every semester throughout middle school.  His favorite MLB player is Alex Rodriguez because of the way he plays the game.  Matt brings great offense, defense, and is a huge HR power.  Matt is both excited and honored to have the opportunity to play for Team Travel Ball Select.

Nathan "Pudge" Rodriguez is from Westminster, California and currently plays for the Nitro Elite 12u team out of Huntington Beach, California. Nathan is co-captain, starting catcher, bats clean-up, but also pitches and plays the corners when needed. Nathan had a great 2008 season, focusing strictly on travel ball where his team went 74 and 7 winning the Southern California USSSA State Championship. Nathan had a big role in his team’s success, but if you ask him what he enjoyed most besides playing ball with all his friends he’d say it was when he broke up his buddy, Tyler Alamo’s, no hitter at the Elite 24. (Sorry Tyler :-).  Nathan will be going into the seventh grade this fall. He is an above average student who is full of energy. Nathan has a goal to play baseball for the University of Miami in honor of his Cuban roots. Nathan has many favorite MLB players, but if he had to pick just one, it would be Ivan Rodriguez because it’s whom he inherited his nickname from.

Kevin Wade is from Mission Viejo, California.  He played for the 12U HB Nitro Elite and the 13U OC Stars. Kevin is a versatile player who spends most of his time at Pitching, 1B and 3B and he is a big bat in the middle of the batting order. His pitching, hitting and defense were instrumental in the success of the HB Nitro Elite who won many tournaments in Southern California including a birth in the USSSA Elite 24. Kevin also played with the 13U OC Stars, hitting .400 with 43 RBI's in helping them win 5 USSSA tournaments including the Western Major World Series. Kevin's most memorable moments of the 2008 season are the many tournament victories he shared with his team mates and the two 300+ foot home runs he hit in one USSSA tournament at the Big League Dreams facility in Southern California. Kevin is a straight “A” student who likes to fish and play basketball. His favorite player is Roger Clemens because he likes his pitching mechanics and his aggressiveness.

This concludes our series on TEAM TBS.  Stayed tuned as TravelBallSelect.com will be following the action and reporting on the key accomplishments of teams as this year’s NATC championship week unfolds.
