12U Elite 24 Update: PC Vipers vs TEAM Rawlings Print E-mail
August 5, 2008 Disney Wide World of Sports arena, Kissimmee, Florida USSSA Elite 24 World Series

[FL] TEAM Rawlings 5 -
[GA] Paulding County Vipers 4
Day two of the 12U USSSA Elite 24 Pool play had some very good matchups.  Today’s game between the #4 ranked TEAM Rawlings and the #6 ranked PC Vipers was one of the best – and, as expected, it was close from start to finish.
The game remained scoreless through 3 innings of play with excellent performances by both pitchers, backed by good defense that foiled scoring threats.

The Vipers scored in the top of the 4th when Eric Knox hit a lead off single that was followed by an RBI double by Mitchell Webb.  But, as Webb hustled to turn extra bases into a score, he was thrown out at home.  This ended the Viper scoring threat with the Vipers leading 2-0. TEAM Rawlings responded in the bottom of the 4th when Willis Estrada hit a booming 3xRun homer to take the lead 3-2.  They extended this lead with a double by pitcher David Boyle.  Boyles double was then followed by RBI hits by Brooks Wilson and Cage Hutchinson.  At this point, Rawlings led 5-2.

In the top of the 5th, the PC Vipers rallied with a lead off hit by Cody Cobb, followed by an RBI from Roderick Noonan.  This narrowed the Rawlings lead to 5-3.  The Vipers then shut down the Rawlings offense in the bottom of the 5th.  Then, in the top of the 6th, the Vipers scored another run when Jeremiah Johnson hit an RBI grounder that drove Eric Knox home.  But, at that point, TEAM Rawlings’ pitcher, David Boyle, struck out the remaining Viper batters, leaving Viper runners stranded on 1st and 3rd.

TEAM Rawlings finished pool play with a record of 2-0. while the PC Vipers dropped to 0-2.  TEAM Rawlings will have a first round bye in Bracket play and await the winner of the Norwalk Stingrays and the Charlotte Hurricanes.  This bye gives Rawlings a breather as they will not play until Thursday.

The PC Vipers will face the Jackson Coyotes Wednesday at 5pm.
