2008 12U SV Yankees (CA) Print E-mail

The SV Yankees were formed as a 10U team in the fall of 2006.  Seven players from that team’s initial roster are still with the 12U Yankees today.  The team has a true community feel, as all players reside within 15 miles of the team’s hometown of Los Gatos, CA.  The coaching staff consists of a group of parents with a genuine love for the game who devote a significant amount of time preparing the Yankees for high school baseball and life after baseball.

The goal of the Yankees in their first season was to compete at a high level in a national tournament.  The team accomplished that goal by winning the American Division at the Super Series Winter Nationals.  For their 11U season, the team’s goal was to repeat as Super Series Winter National champions (this time in the National Division) and play in the USSSA Elite 24.  The Yankees were able to win the Super Series Winter Nationals, but came up just short of qualifying for the USSSA Elite 24.  Naturally, the team’s goal for the 12U season was to qualify for the USSSA Elite 24, which they did by winning the Northern California Super NIT tournament over President’s Day weekend.

The Yankees have an impressive overall record of 45-18-2 in USSSA events during the 2008 season, highlighted by a state championship and 11 victories (65% of games played) against 13U teams.  The team’s success stems from a combination of strong pitching, solid defense and exceptional hitting.

The Elite 24 begins August 3rd in Orlando, FL and the Yankees are ready for the challenge.  They worked extremely hard to meet their goal of qualifying for this event.  This will be a true test as they will compete against some of the best teams from across the nation.  TBS congratulates the Yankees for a great season and best of luck in Orlando.
