2008 12U Virginia Shredders Print E-mail

The 12U Virginia Shredders are a team with a mission. The mission is to compete with and be one of the best teams in the state of Virginia. The Shredders have accomplished this task and now are setting their sights on the national stage.

The Shredders originated the fall of their 10U season. Since then the goal was to improve each season by playing the best competition possible. The Shredders have a combined spring 2008 record of 48-9 playing USSSA, AAU and Triple Crown tournaments. Highlights include staking a claim as the best in the state of Virginia by winning the AAU State Championship defeating the 3-time defending champion Tidewater Drillers. In the spring, for the first time, the Shredders ventured out of state to test themselves against the strongest regional competition finishing 5th in the Charlotte Super NIT, only losing to the eventual champion, TBS #6 ranked Paulding County Vipers. The Shredders competed in the Northeast USSSA Super NIT in Pennsylvania where they lost in the semi-finals falling just short of their goal of qualifying for Disney.

The Shredders are loaded with athletes featuring some of the top baseball talent in the state. The roster is deep in pitching and power with a strong defensive presence. As a testament, everyone on the roster has pitched this season and has also hit multiple home runs. They have great team speed, like to run and just as they did in Charlotte, they can light up the scoreboard with the best of them. They play an aggressive style of baseball but are always expected to play the game the right way, respect the game, their opponents and umpires.

This summer many of the Shredders will be participating with the local Little League and Cal Ripken all-stars teams in hopes of getting to their World Series. The plan is to reunite and make a run at AAU Nationals in Richmond, VA in late July. As for the fall, the Shredders have aggressive plans to play in the most competitive tournaments in Virginia plus as many top invitational tournaments and national championships as their schedule permits including more Super NIT’s. They are looking forward to the challenge of testing themselves against the best. Their goal is to be recognized as one of the Elite teams. Travel Ball Select wishes the Shredders the best as they work towards playing on the elite stage with the top teams in the country.
