2008 12U Jackson Coyotes Print E-mail

                                           12U Jackson Coyotes

12u_jackson_coyotes.jpgThe Jackson Coyotes are comprised of 11 boys from Western TN and are led by Head Coach Michael Wickersham.  The Coyotes planned on playing in 12 local tournaments in order to get ready for the 12 year old Majors State tournament and the USSSA World Series in Birmingham, AL.  Coach Wick changed their plans early in the year when he figured out that their goals were set too low.  He decided to start taking road trips and competing against great competition. The goal was not to just play in the Majors World series … it was to qualify for Orlando and play in the Elite 24! After a soggy spring and many canceled tournaments, the Coyotes packed their bags and went to Cullman, Alabama to test their might.  They were forced to battle tornadoes with Mother Nature, but they also found what they were looking for.  They had a great run, but fell short of the championship to the TBS #5 ranked Terminators.  Two berths were awarded that weekend, so the Coyotes claimed one and will be traveling down south in August to compete with the big boys!

This is a well, put together team and each boy brings something different to the table.  They have strong pitching and a really good defense, but their specialty is hitting.  They have scored 225 runs in their last 4  tournaments and that’s just the month of May.  The Jackson Coyote team members are Colin Roberts, Ethan Mayberry, Tyler Hardin (TBS player to watch), Alex Whitwell, Matt Poteete, TA Watson, Logan Hughes, Carter Mcmakin, Taylor McKinney, Blain Curtis, and Tyler Brown.  Coach Wick also has a solid coaching staff with Chuck Hardin, Kent Whitwell, Tommy Carter, and Matt Hughes.  With their hard work this team has reached the level that they wanted to reach.  They can compete with anyone.  During the month of May, the Coyotes went 20-3, winning 2 of the 4 tournaments entered, and finished runner up to the Terminators and the Memphis Tigers in the other 2.  The Jackson Coyotes have 5 tournaments left including a Super Series National World Series before they flying south for the Elite 24.
