12u_broward_red_dogs.jpgThe Broward Red Dogs are having a very good year in the 12U division. Based out of talent rich South Florida, the Red Dogs have won 5 tournaments and have finished 2nd in several others.  Coached by Onel Garcia, this team has been in existence since 2005 when they were 10 year olds.  Garcia says, “Our team has stayed true to our motto, which is continuous improvement.  In the five seasons that we have been together, we have improved our winning percentage each season.  We capped off our season as 11's by winning the USSSA State Tournament-South Florida edition.  It'll be very difficult to do that next season with the type of year we’re having, but we will make that our goal.”  With the addition of some key players this season the Red Dogs have catapulted into one of the top teams in the state of Florida having won two Triple Crown tournaments and the Florida Premier Baseball League in South Florida.  The Red Dogs have also qualified for the State Championship in the AABC league.

This team is well known for their hitting while posting a team batting average of .396 through their last 110 games played.  The Red Dog players consist of Danny Garcia, Jessey Belanger, Micah Baxter-Miller, Kevin Abraham, Michael Mediavilla, Jordan Cox, Casey Garcia, Ryan Merante, George Halamoutis, Alex Sarmiento, Chris Medina, and AJ Fidalic. The assistant coaches are Robert Garcia, Vince Miller, and Ralph Merante.

The Red Dogs have played TBS #10 ranked Team Miami five times in various finals in South Florida tournaments, but have come up short while going 0-4 with one of the championship games being rained out after 1 inning of play. The last game occurred on Memorial Day in the Coral Springs Classic finals and it was a classic. The Red Dogs lost 4-2 and had runners on 2nd and 3rd in the last inning but could not capitalize.

The Broward Red Dogs will be attending Cooperstown’s last week, which will be the week of August 23rd. The Red Dogs also have their sights set on the AABC World Series in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico which will be held Aug.7th-10th.
