11U Elite 24 Results: Macomb Mudhens - Texas American Prospects Print E-mail

August 7, 2008 Disney Wide World of Sports arena, Kissimmee, Florida USSSA Elite 24 World Series 11U

[MI] Macomb Mudhens 3 –- Texas American Prospects 1

The Mudhens from Macomb, Michigan defeated the #1 ranked Prospects by a score of 3-1 here today.  The Mudhens scored all their runs in the top of the 1st and then held on with excellent pitching by Kyle Randick and excellent defense.

Mudhen defenders refused to let balls get past them in he infield or over them in the outfield.  One example came in bottom of the 4th when the Prospects had mounted a threat with 2 runners on base.  Mudhen, Andrew Papadelis, robbed TX AM Prospect (Kebryan Hayes) of a sure double when he chase down a screaming fly that was heading over the center field fence line.  This prevented - what would have been - a sure game tying double.

Key hitting for the Mudhens came from Nick Plummer who hit a 2xRBI double, followed by an RBI single from Kyle Randick.  These two hits accounted for all three of their runs.

The Texas American Prospects got an excellent performance on the mound by Zach Shirey, who held the Mudhens scoreless for five innings. Jacob Almendarez doubled, John Rizer hit an RBI single that scored the only run for the Prospects.

The Mudhens will now wait for their next opponent to emerge from the elimination bracket games that will be played later today.  Their next game will be Friday morning at 10am.
