11U Results - East Cobb Astros wins the AAU National Championship Print E-mail

Disney World, Florida:  The East Cobb Astros shut out an outstanding Virginia Storm team 11-0 here today to take home the 11U AAU National Title.  The Storm had just won a very close (4-3) game against an excellent Hawaii Warriors team - placing them in the championship for a 2nd match up against the Astros in as many days.  But, the humidity and the noon heat, along with the demands of back to back games, proved too much for even the outstanding, young athletes from Virginia– as their task was to face off against an explosive East Cobb Astros team that was eager for a championship.

The Astros came out swinging and quickly jumped up 6-0 after the bottom of the 1st.  Once again Nile Ball took the mound for the Astros and performed to perfection, pitching a 4 inning shut out, while giving up only 2 hits.  But, the Storm was not willing to go without a fight.  They battled with all the energy they had left in their tanks and held the game close until RJ Hall stepped to the plate for the Astros at the bottom of the 4th. At that point, young Hall slammed a 3 run walk off home run that ended the game.

The Astros’s wins throughout this tournament came as a result of excellent play from every player at every position.  Of particular note, are the 6 home runs from RJ Hall, along with the bats of Tyler Stevenson, who went 23-25 throughout the whole tournament - including 2 home runs.  Also, Carter Hall of the Astros hit an exceptional 16 of 24 for a 667 batting average during this tournament.  Clearly, a team that brings this level of hitting is going to win some games.

Congratulations 11U East Cobb Astros, 2008 AAU National Champions.  This team is making a strong statement that they may be the best team in the country.  All Eyes will be watching as the upcoming season finale, The Elite 24, is up next for the Astros where they will face off against other outstanding teams across the USA.  Another national title and the 2008 #1 ranking will be the Grand Prize.
