11U Results - Triple Crown's South Florida State Championship Print E-mail

Triple Crown's South Florida 11U State Championship took place in Coral Springs, Florida over July 4th weekend.  The Championship game pitted Panther Baseball out of Coral Springs against the Wellington Warriors. In order to get there, Wellington bested the Boca Thunder and a fine Angel Baseball team from Miami and the Panthers defeated both the Miami Enforcers and the Tamiami Outlaws.

In the Championship Game, the Warriors erased a 5 run deficit as Anthony Mangiotis blasted a 3rd inning grand slam to tie the game at 6-6. The Panthers went ahead 7-6 in the bottom of the 5th on a solo shot from Devin Conn.  However, the Warriors came back with 2 runs in the top of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead.  But in the bottom of the 6th, with 2 strikes and 2 outs, Zack Kone hit a booming home run to tie the game. The next batter, Andres Matouk, then blasted a walk-off homerun over the left field fence.  Down to their last strike and their last out, the Panthers hit dramatic back to back jacks to win this prestigious Triple Crown Championship Game by a 9-8 margin.

In South Texas, TravelBallSelect's number one ranked Texas Prospects Americans competed in their final warm-up prior to making the trek to Orlando's Elite 24 Tournament.  The Americans took on a tough field of 12U and 11U teams and finished 2nd behind 12U Major Katy Patriots losing in the championship game at the Tape Measure Shot Tournament in Brookshire, Texas.  The Houston Angels (ranked 16th) competed well before losing to the Katy Patriots in the semi-finals.  In pool play, the two 11U teams met and the Americans beat the devil out of the Angels 21-4.

The 11U Armour Baseball wrapped up their play as well before going to Disney to compete against the best.  They finished with a 58-9 record which includes a 21-4 record in 12's and 37-5 in 11's.  They averaged nine runs per game and allowed less than 3 during the season (including 12U tournaments too). Armour had nine (9) tournament wins for the season with three against the older age group

The 11U Armour (ranked 12th by TravelBallSelect) is not the only Armour team going to Disney for the Elite.  They have three teams in the organization playing in the Elite, 10's, 11's and 12's.  The 9 yr. old team qualified but will not be participating.
