11U Update - AAU Nationals Print E-mail

The 1st rounds of bracket play at Florida’s Disney Wide World of Sports complex were completed on Wednesday.  The results are:

Top seeded Virginia Storm (Ranked #11 nationally by TBS) edged past the Bullets Blue (Florida) by a score of 5 to 4.  The Storm will face the Mill Creek Hawks (also ranked 25th nationally by TBS) in the 2nd round.  This game promises to be a show down as it matches up two nationally ranked teams; Storm #11 taking on #25 Mill Creek.  The Mill Creek Hawks (GA) crushed the SC Spartans (CA) 11-0 to earn the right to face the Storm.

In other games played on Wednesday, the Home Plate Chili Dogs (Georgia, ranked #21 nationally by TBS) beat the Carolina Angels (NC) with an impressive 14-3 win.  They will face off against the CFL Diamond Reds, who beat the South Shore Sea Dogs 11-0.  This game will be played Thursday at 8am.

In addition, the Meteors (FL) upset the seeded Great Hands Gloves (CA) by a score of 11-0. Next up, the Meteors will face the Hawaii Warriors who defeated the Lakewood Longhorns 5-2 to advance to the 2nd round of the winner’s bracket.  This game will be played Thursday at 8pm.

Finally, the Florida Fire (ranked #3 nationally by TBS) beat the Coral Springs Panthers (FL) by a score of 10-5.  The Fire will face off against the East Cobb Astros (ranked #7 nationally by TBS.  The East Cobb Astros (GA) advanced by virtue of their 12-2 win over the East Cobb Titans on Wednesday.  This game should be loaded with outstanding play from both teams as each has shown championship form throughout the 2008 season.  The Fire has won 9 tournaments this year, while the Astros have an overall 2008 record of 61-15-1 this season with over half of their 15 loses coming to 12U teams.
