11U Tournament Update - Cincy Flames Summer Classic

WEST CHESTER, Ohio – The weather was even less cooperative on Day Two of the 2008 11U Cincy Flames Summer Classic.
   None of the Friday’s 39 scheduled games were played in their entirety because of heavy rain.
   “This isn’t the best time to ask me how the tournament’s going,” tournament director Matt Malott said. “I promise I’ll give you best quote in the world when I get more sleep.”
   Day One was also cut short by rain, but 22 of 31 games were completed.
   Despite Thursday’s abbreviated schedule, the opening day of the tournament saw several key upsets.
   The Future (Ill.) edged the West Chester Sluggers, 4-3 on Thursday. The Sluggers were 40-3 going into this tournament, and had jumped from No. 18 to No. 14 in the latest Travelballselect.com rankings.
   The Future (Ill.) also beat the Evansville Extreme, 1-0 on Friday in a game shortened to four innings because of the wet weather. That win made The Future the first team in the field to win three games and ensured them a berth into the championship round on Sunday.
   The Extreme and the Wilmington Wildcats are the only teams to have suffered two losses.
   The unranked Indiana Longhorns upset the Shoetiques (Tenn.), who are an TBS honorable mention, 4-2 in the Nashville-area team’s first game of the tournament.
   The Longhorns are now 2-0, and only The Future has more tournament wins.
   Also, the Downriver (Mich.) Hawks beat the Region (Ind.) Redbirds, 5-3 in both teams’ first game of the weekend.
   The Redbirds are also a TBS honorable mention team.
