11U Tournament News: USSSA Texas State Tournament Print E-mail
June 29, 2008 -- (Houston TX) -- Houston's unpredictable summer weather produced a three-hour delay and a late-night finish to the USSSA Texas state tournament at the Baseball USA complex.
Three of the four age group championships were eventually decided, with the 10-year-old division final delayed until Monday morning.

The 14-year-old division title was the only division to actually be decided on Sunday, with the Texas Drillers defeating the College Station Stallions 3-0.
Banditos Black earned the 12-year-old title at 12:30 a.m. Monday morning, holding off the Houston Havoc 7-4. The "late night award" went to all those who stayed until 2 a.m. to watch the 11-year-old championship game, where the Houston Lighting pounded out a 15-0 decision over RBA Seahawks.

Houston Lightning supporters who remained until the final out at 2 a.m. saw their team slap 13 hits in only three innings. The contest ended after the top of the fourth by the run-rule.
All but one Lighting player finished with at least one hit. The exception was Nathan Hibbeler, who walked three times and scored once.
Anthony Dahl went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Collecting two hits apiece were John Tucker and Braden Morrow.
Morrow drove in three runs. Tucker, Calb Morris and Drew Van Norman each finished with two RBIs.
Dahl and Morrow combined on the two-hit shutout.

Ranked eighth by Travel Ball Select, Lighting reached the championship game by defeating Houston Senators, and Bad Boys Baseball. The unranked Seahawks won three games on Saturday, including an upset of second-ranked Texas Prospects American in the second round.
