2008 11U Shoetiques Print E-mail

11U Shoetiques (TN)

The 11U Shoetiques are listed in TBS Pre-Season Rankings as an Honorable Mention team.  It is a team that keeps getting better with time as it is part of a 4 decade baseball tradition going back to the early 1970s.  This specific team hopes to build on a 49-15 record from their inaugural 2007 season.  Their work is cut out for them as the Shoetiques will play in three National caliber tournaments including the Battle in the South in Rockwood, TN; the East Cobb Tournament of Champions; and the Cincy Flames Classic.

The Shoetiques return 7 players from last season which featured two 16 game winners, Bryce Denton and Nate Neal, as well as knuckleball pitcher and 8 game winner Cameron Webb.  The addition of LHP Darien Prewett from the North Alabama Chargers, junk pitcher Cullen Nowell, and flame thrower Coleman Goodwin should improve an already strong pitching staff.

Leading hitters Denton, Alex Webb, and Hunter Bradford (combined 96 extra base hits in 07) anchor a potent offense, which should improve dramatically with the addition of Goodwin, speedster Prewett, and Nowell.

Second baseman Cody Burch anchors a solid defense, which will improve with the additional speed of Goodwin, Nowell, and Prewett, all of whom can play multiple positions.  Iron man Cameron Towns will continue to be one of the top catchers in the state and should get additional opportunities to use his strong arm on the mound this season.

After playing primarily 12U competition during the Fall Season, the 11U Shoetiques have jumped in feet first into one of the toughest schedules in the Country with the aforementioned tournaments as well as the Super NIT in Alabama.

Two additions to the coaching staff, Robert Towns and Will Nowell, who played at Birmingham Southern, could make the Shoetiques a sleeper team to watch in '08.

Travel Ball Select will track the progress of the Shoetiques as it will be covering the four tournaments listed.  TBS encourages teams to play with the best and against the best and knows this team will grow into their big shoes.
