11U TABU Baseball
TABU has competed under the names of VYAA Sting Bomberz and TSB Baseball over the past year and a half. During the 2007 season, TABU finished with a 61-13 record that included a 2nd place finish in Cooperstown (10-1 record), 1st place finish in the California USSSA Summer State Championships (playing up in 11u), 7th place finish at the USSSA Elite World Series (4-2 record) and various other championships in both 10u and 11u tournaments. Although placing a disappointing 7th place at the Elite, TABU had a great tournament with the only losses coming at the hands of the eventual winner – Turn 2 Rattlers. The first loss to the Rattlers was a heart breaker that ended with a homerun by the Rattlers in the 6th inning. The homerun sealed the come from behind victory for the Rattlers and forced TABU into the losers bracket. TABU would then battle back by beating the BLBA Americans prior to loosing to the Rattlers for the 2nd time. The following were key wins during the 2007 Season:
- Lamorinda Cougars (3 times)
- Florida Fire (Cooperstown Pool Play)
- Cincinnati Flames (Cooperstown Sweet Sixteen)
- East Cobb Astros (Cooperstown Semi Finals)
- Dekalb Barons (Elite WS)
- BLBA Americans (Elite WS)
- Turn 2 Venom (Elite WS)
- Southgate Democrats (Elite WS)
- Temecula Tides (MLK Super NIT)
Since participating at the Elite World Series in August, TABU has added 2 key players in flame throwing pitcher/catcher Bryce Dyrda and silky smooth shortstop Anthony Robbins. TABU boasts a deep pitching staff with starting pitchers Dyrda, Karsten Lee, Jake Sola, Mitch Hart and Devin Lehman. Centerfield is anchored by speedster Bailey Gaither, who set the all time 10u roadrunner record at Cooperstown with a time of 13.38 sec (broke the record by almost ½ a second)! Other key players that anchor the infield, outfield and pitching staffs are Cal Stevenson, Ryan Milligan and Trevor Larnach. Stevenson and Larnach are smooth hitting lefties that spray the ball to all fields and Milligan who is pound for pound the hardest hitting 11u in the country. Anchoring the TABU defense is hard hitting catcher Cameron Smith.
TABUs quest for the coveted National Championship has already begun by winning 8 of 11 tournaments (including the last 4 tournaments) and compiling a 44-6 record during the young 2008 Season. This includes 4 – 12u Championships and 2 – USSSA Super NIT Championships (MLK and Presidents Day). Now that TABU has won back-to-back Super NIT’s, they will focus on playing 12u tournaments in order to prepare for the journey back to East Cobb, Georgia to play in the 11u Tournament of Champions May 29 – June 1. With 24 teams traveling from 11 different states this tournament is sure to be a good test to see where everyone stands prior to the Elite World Series at Disney.
