News Flash: Henderson Las Vegas Fall Nationals event draws 102 teams PDF Print E-mail

By Mike Henle

HENDERSON, Nev. – Youth baseball teams from 13 states have gathered here for the Week Two of the Henderson Las Vegas Fall Nationals which will be held Friday through Sunday at 11 facilities throughout Southern Nevada.

The tournament includes age groups 10, 12, 13 and 14 and comes on the heals of Week One, which featured age groups 8, 9, 11, 15, 16 and 18 competing at the same facilities.

With a total of 102 teams scheduled to play in the second week of competition, Triple Crown Sports Western Region Baseball Director Brandon Hardy said the latest round equals the size of last week’s event, which also drew 102 teams.

“This is a great finishing event,” said Hardy, a native Coloradan who lives in Fort Collins. “This is our last true championship event for the 2008 season, and it serves as a great capper to the year for the western region.

“We have a team from Hawaii and another from Alaska. In addition, there is an East Coast team from Delaware. People really enjoy coming to Vegas since this is a destination that everyone wants to visit.”

Hardy complimented the City of Henderson for its help to maintain and present the fields. He said City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Director Ted Lockaman has been a real trooper to work with preparing for the tournaments.

“He has been a Johnny-On-The-Spot for us,” said Hardy. “Whenever we have needed anything, Ted and his staff have been there to help us out. People here have really rolled out the red carpet for everyone participating in the tournaments, and we appreciate that.

“Everyone ranging from the players to the parents, coaches and fans will undoubtedly remember the experience.”

Hardy also lauded his own staff, which includes Andy Teruy of Kailua, Hawaii; Paul Housley of Fort Collins, Colo.; Harlan Moore of Eucha, Okla; and Jordan Cohen of Homewood, Ill., among others.

“We call ourselves Weekend Warriors,” Hardy said. “We are on the fields at 7 in the morning, and we don’t leave until midnight. Between preparing the fields, registering the teams and the rest, this is a long but rewarding experience. We could not possibly get all of this done without everyone’s help.”

Triple Crown Sports is headquartered in Fort Collins, Colo. It is an event management company concentrating on youth baseball and girls fast pitch tournaments all over the country.

In addition, Triple Crown owns the rights to run the Women’s Division I pre and post College Basketball National Invitational tournament held each year in various parts of the country.

Triple Crown also operates three additional mens and womens Division I basketball tournaments in Cancun, Mex. The company also has other events including girls fast pitch, college placement events for high school juniors and senior to showcase their skills in front of college coaches.
