10U NYBU Results - Juice 10 PDF Print E-mail

August 23, 2008 – Cordova, Tennessee, NYBC Nationals:  The AAU National Champion TBS #24 Chet Lemon's Juice from Orlando, Florida edged past team Tamiami of Miami, Florida (TBS # 8 Miami Playmakers) here today by a score of 8-7

The game was a close one from the opening pitch to the last out. Tamiami looked like they might be taking control of the game when they jumped up 5-3 in the top of the 4th inning.

But, the Juice refused to quit as Juan Hillman slammed a 2xRBI double in the bottom of the inning to tie the game again at 5-5 going into the 5th.

The 5th inning proved to be another inning where the lead would switch.  Tamiami came to bat the top of the inning and Eli Marrero blasted an RBI double that put his team up by one, then Eli stole third base, then stole home on an errant pitch – giving Tamiami a 7-5 lead.  But this lead didn’t last long as the Juice came to bat and tied the score at 7 all with a 2xRBI double from Zach Jackson.

In the 6th and final inning, Juice pitcher, Austin Bergner, proved to be the ACE of the game.  He buckled down and retired the Tamiami batters in order, striking out all three.  This put the Juice in a position to get the win as they came to bat with the score tied in the bottom of the 6th inning.  At that point, Juan Hillman earned a lead off walk that proved to be the game winning run when Garret Milken managed a “bunt-single” advancing Hillman to 2nd with no outs.  The Juice then capitalized on Hillman’s aggressive base running skills as he stole 3rd base and then moved on to score the winning run when Jake Sullivan successfully executed a sacrifice bunt to drive in Hillman.

The Juice will now move into the 10 and under championship game that will be held later today.  They will face the winner of the Tomateros de California and the Southern Jaguars of Atlanta, Georgia.
