10U NYBC Update - Jaguars arrest the Marshalls Print E-mail

August 21, 2008 – Cordova, Tennessee, NYBC Nationals.

The Southern Jaguars from Marietta, Georgia defeated the McKinney Marshalls of McKinney, Texas today by a score of 11-4.  The Jaguars are the NABF Champions (National Amateur Baseball Federation), while the Marshalls represent the Super-Series organization.

The game was tied 3-3 moving into the bottom of the 4th when the Jaguars came to bat and exploded with 8 runs to build an 11-3 lead.  This offense was driven by lead off batter James Nelson getting on base, followed by RBI hits from Jenkins, Josh Terry, Brandon Singleton, Jordon Thomas, along with a 2xRBI double by Chad Smith that broke the game wide open for the Jags.

The Marshalls attempted to rally in the bottom of the 5th, as Alex Garcia drove in a run to close the Jaguar lead to 5 runs.  But, the Jaguars’ defense stiffened and shut down the Marshalls rally attempt to close out 5 full innings of play with an 11-4 lead.  This proved to be the final score of the game.

Says Ron Smith, Head Coach of the Jaguars , “We started out flat as we hadn’t played a tournament game since July 4th, but once we got our rhythm our game came back and all our players stepped up and contributed to this win”.

The Jaguars were lead by excellent Pitching from Chad Smith who turned in five innings on the mound, while striking out 6 batters, allowing only 3 runs from 3 hits.  Daniel Kinchen came in to close the game and is credited with a save.

Jordon Ross went 3-4 with an RBI for the Marshalls, while Chad Smith was named the player of the game for the Jaguars, going 5 innings on the mound and hitting 2 for 3 with a single and a 2xRBI double.

Next up will be the Tomateros De California going against McComb, Mississippi - The Dixie Youth Champions.
