by William Saunders

Irving, TX - The Tamiami Playmakers (TravelBallSelect #8 Miami Playmakers) recently won the Pony World Series in Texas. The Playmakers are a Pony Select team that plays in the Tamiami Youth Pony Baseball League in South Florida. This is the same Playmakers team that came in second place at Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament two months ago.The Playmakers went 30-1 in the travel season and finished their Pony season with a record of 45-1. They were undefeated throughout the run to the Pony League World Champions. They went 3-0 in state play, 3-0 in the region tournament, 4-0 in zone and 5-0 at the World Series. This high powered team outscored their opponents 52-18 in the five World Series games.

First up for the Playmakers was Channahan, IL who they beat 8-4. In the second game they faced Irving, TX winning by a score of 16-2. The third game was more of the same, Playmakers 14 - Tijuana, Mexico 9. The Semi-Finals saw the Playmakers face a team from Chesterfield (Richmond), VA, a baseball hotbed, Tamiami 9 - Chesterfield 3.

In the Championship game the team from South Florida faced Santa Clarita, CA. SoCal is known for their baseball and a perennial powerhouse for baseball. However, The Playmakers have faced great teams over the past season and won this contest with a shutout, 5-0. It was a statement victory and showed all 10U teams they are worthy of TravelBallSelect’s highest ranking. With this victory the Playmakers earn a berth to the National Youth Baseball Championship in Memphis, TN.

They are currently scheduled to take on the Dixie Youth Champion on Thursday, August 21. On Friday the Playmakers are scheduled to take on current TBS #5 Tomateros de California for a rematch of last years 9u Triple Crown World Series Championship game in Colorado where the Playmakers came up a little short to the Tomateros.

Since June this Miami team has traveled to Cooperstown, NY, Texas twice and next up is a trip to West Tennessee. One thing is for sure, this team is willing to travel to face the best in order to become the best. Congratulations to The Playmakers from Miami, Florida.
