Flower Mound Warriors Win Triple Crown National Championship Title The Flower Mound Warriors of Flower Mound, Texas captured the 2008 Triple Crown World Series title in Myrtle Beach, SC with a perfect 7-0 record. In doing so, the Warriors played some of the best teams in the country according to TravelBallSelect, including the Knoxville Stars (TN) ranked #2, GBC team Acceleration (NC) ranked #4, and perennial North Texas powerhouse Dallas Tigers. Also in the field were the North Texas Rangers from Cedar Hill, Texas who played strong into the semi-finals and eventually on to a 4th place finish versus the Tigers 3rd place finish in the consolation game. The final game versus the Knoxville Stars was a hard fought battle with a final score of 4-3. Hunter Seay started the game and was very strong surrendering just 2 runs and 2 hits through 4 innings. Boston Mallory came in and was equally dominant in closing out the final 2 innings giving up just 1 run to a very good hitting Stars ball club. Backing up the pitching was a superb defensive performance by the entire team, most notably the play of 2nd baseman Ryland King, who was named Defensive MVP of the tournament. On the offensive side of the ball, key hits by several players contributed to the win, none bigger than the 2 hits by Sean McElwee, who was named Offensive MVP of the tournament. In the semi-final game, the Warriors played a familiar foe in the Dallas Tigers. The Warriors knew this would be a hard fought game as all their games versus the Tigers were throughout the season. The Tigers took an early 4-1 lead. The entire Warriors team never gave up expecting that their bats would “come alive” as they had done the entire tournament. A two run homer by Boston Mallory provided a spark that was needed and the bats did come alive as the Warriors scored 6 runs in the 4th inning. Antonio Lima pitched strong in relief and the Warriors came away with a 9-5 victory. To get into the semi-final game the Warriors faced a very tough opponent in GBC Team Acceleration. The superb pitching of starter Bryan Seamster, and the ever strong relief pitching of Antonio Lima, backed by standout defensive performances of Alex Jackson, Taylor Barber, and Jack Waggoner (who broke his arm in this game making a diving catch in centerfield), helped limit the powerful GBC team to 3 runs. One play that stood out in the defensive effort came when Alex Jackson fielded a hard hit ball in the outfield and came up throwing to nail a runner at the plate. And there was no shortage of offensive firepower as the Warriors scored 7 runs, 2 of those runs coming off a mammoth homerun blast by Sean McElwee, and 2 coming off a 2 run single by Hunter Seay.
