Pool Play -- USSSA Texas State Tournament

June 28, 2008 -- (Houston, TX) -- Pool play produced few surprises at the USSSA Texas state tournament Saturday, with Travel Ball Select ranked teams grabbing the majority of the top seeds in the four contested age divisions. The tournament concludes Sunday with single-elimination bracket play.

Out of the top-10 teams competing in their age divisions, only 11-year-old No. 2 entry Texas Prospects Americans failed to sweep its two pool game. Texas Prospects Americans finished with a win and a tie.

Top-ranked 13-year-old team Banditos Black broke even in the 14-year-old division, beating Austin Nitros 12-3 before falling 6-1 to the College Station Stallions.

10-year-olds

American Avengers, ranked sixth by Travel Ball Select, collected a pair of shutouts to grab the top seed. American Avengers defeated Avenger III Red 8-0 and Humble Hurricanes 2-0.

Banditos Black, ranked No. 10, scored wins of 7-1 over STIXX and 14-4 against Texas Outlaws to earn the second seed. Third seed went to Texas Nationals following victories of 9-6 over Texas Bruisers and 3-1 versus Texas Triple Play.
