Team Combat Baseball is based on the Space Coast of Central Florida near Cocoa Beach in Merritt Island. Team Combat actually started as Team Demarini in 2005 and was best know for winning the USSSA 8U State Championship against a very talented Central Florida Bobcats team. The core of the 2005 team is still together and has played under the name Team Combat since the spring of 2006. Team Combat in a developing organization that now has teams playing in the 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U age divisions. Team Combat’s 10U team just finished a great Spring/Summer Tournament season including a trip to Cooperstown during week # 2 where they finished with a 7-1 record. Their only defeat was at the hands of TravelBallSelect’s nationally ranked GBC Acceleration (4th) in the round of 16. Team Combat finished their final three tournaments of Spring/Summer 2008 with an 18-2 record including a USSSA NIT tournament win in Kissimmee, Florida. Team Combat’s mission, as it is for all of the teams in the organization, is to prepare and develop each young athlete so they can compete at the High School level. Team Combat General Manager Scott Taylor tells TravelBallSelect “we are very fortunate to have a professional manager that spends quality time with the 10U team even though he does not have any kids on our team. Coach Frith assembled a great staff and the coaches work the kids like Frith does with his High School team. He treats them with respect at all times while challenging them to play at a high level”
Team Combat began this month practicing on the bigger fields in preparation for the Fall Season as an 11U team. Even with their successes in 2008, Team Combat understands that the off-season is just as important of the development process, if not more so, as the regular season. In 2008 Team Combat was lead defensively by Brady McConnell, Jackson Muldowney, Mac Massengill, Kyle Pemberton and Will Erdman. The pitching staff of Anthony Castagnaro, Dylan Owens, River Jordan, Jimmy Vaughan and Tyler Stephens did a great job of keeping hitters off balance and relying on the support of the other eight players on the field. The hitting efforts were lead by Chris Matthias, Sam Crocker and Trent Taylor. TravelBallSelect will track the progress of this team for many years to come and expects great results both in the near future and beyond.
