By: William Saunders  This week we head to Deland Florida, near Orlando, home of the TBS #12 Central Florida Bobcats 10U. The Bobcats started as an 8u team in the fall of 2005, although many of the boys have been playing together since they were 5 years old. Some of the highlights of this very talented team include a 4th place finish at the USSSA Nationals in Atlanta, a 9U AAU State Championship, a 10U USSSA State Championship and most recently the Bobcats earned a trip to the highly prestigious Elite 24 World Series in Disney by knocking off the heavily favored TBS #6 LMC in the Sunshine State Super NIT in the semi finals last month.   Coach Mike Harkcom tells Travel Ball Select "I feel our biggest asset as a team is the dedication of our families. We see teams come and go but our parents get along well and we do our best to keep our boys together. My personal goal is for all of our players to make a high school team." Coach Mike also attributes his team’s success to the coaching staff. Coach Buddy Collins, Coach Doug Allen and Coach Mervyl Melendez, who also coaches Bethune-Cookmam University do a great job teaching the boys how to play ball. The Bobcats are a model of consistency as evident by their all time record of 140 wins and 30 losses. In tournament play they have racked up fourteen 1st place finishes, eleven 2nd place and two 3rd place finishes. In 2008 alone they have been in the championship game in all 7 tournaments they have entered. The Bobcats’ defense is lead by Andre Walden, Cody Collins, Brian Rey, Mervyl Melendez and Robbie Jensen. Logan Allen, Tanner Clark and Brandon White, who pitched masterfully in the Sunshine State Super NIT semi’s, anchor a solid pitching staff. The Bobcats have some big hitters as well. Lead by Michael Harkcom, William Rosado, Joey Harbuck and Tanner Frabbott who hit the go ahead 3 run homerun to propel the Bobcats into the championship game in last months Super NIT.   TBS looks forward to watching the Central Florida Bobcats continue to climb the rankings and have a strong showing at the USSSA Elite 24 at Disney.
