This update corrects an issue that resulted from differences when various baseball organizations switched their play to count toward the 2012 season. For example, Triple Crown’s 2012 season does not start until October 1s while others (such as USSSA) start their 2012 season from September 1st. This caused all Triple Crown events that were held in September to be skewed 1 age group behind tournaments hosted by other organizatons during the same period.

At this early stage, computer rankings will (no doubt) omit a few deserving teams that either; (1) played a limited fall schedule, (2) played with a limited roster that didn’t include key players, or (3) or didn’t play at all.

In contrast, TBS official rankings not only take into account computer rankings, but also draw heavily on inputs from Coaches and Directors across each major region. Thus, they take into account the subjective factors that computer algorithms cannot easily consider.

TravelBallSelect will follow with further updates of these computer rankings in January. In addition, we will also begin releasing our Official Winter Season Rankings starting in January.

9-14U TBS Computer Rankings – Fall 2012

TravelBallSelect.com announces its final 2012 Fall Season wrap-up of its computer rankings of the top 25 teams in the Nation. These rankings are based on documented team results in the major national and regional tournaments. Such events took place across the nation starting September 1st through December 15th. This list will (no doubt) omit a few of the top teams in the nation as many teams either (1) a limited fall schedule, (2) played with a limited roster that didn’t include key players, or didn’t play at all.  We will update Computer Rankings in January.

In addition, TravelBallSelect.com will kick-off its Winter Edition Rankings on (or before) January 5th. These rankings will not only take into account computer rankings; but also, will consider, coaches and regional director’s rankings and inputs, along with other factors such as; major tournament results, strength of schedule, as well as, with the number of wins over top 25 level teams.

9-14U Coming January…TBS National Rankings

Coming in January

TravelBallSelect.com will follow the recent release of its Computer Rankings with its first Official Edition of its 2012 National Rankings of the nation's top 25 teams within each age bracket.  These rankings will be based, in part, on computer rankings, but will draw heavily from inputs from coaches and directors located all across the USA.  It will also consider the relative strength of schedule and We will update these rankings in January and February as play moves through Winter 2012 action and into Spring.

Look for these rankings along with our special feature stories on the top teams that will be contending for National Championships in 2012.  Also, we will be continuing with more feature stories on top "game changing" players, from each age level, that will be contending for All America honors in 2012.

11U Team MVP – Powerhouse in 2012!

11U Team MVP – Powerhouse in 2012!

11U TEAM MVP setting their sights on being the Nation’s best in 2012

The MVP Organization of Miami, Florida has consistently produced some of the top teams in the nation over recent years. This year’s 2012 edition of the 11U MVP is looking to take a big step. They have been a solid top 5 team during their past two seasons as 9 and 10 year olds. At times, they have held the top national ranking spotlight, only to drop behind the Oakley Stingrays of Southern California and their cross town rivals, Team Miami, down the stretch of the long hot summer seasons. But this year’s 11U MVP could be shaping up to change all that. They are putting together a team that clearly has exceptional talent from top to bottom. So, watch this team. They may very well be standing at the top of the ranks once the 2012 season is done.

11U11-MVP T3

Thus far, over the course of fall 2012 season play, this 11U Team MVP has built a whopping overall record of 65-1 winning 12 of their 13 tournament appearances while competing in USSSA, Triple Crown, and AAU events. Their big wins include USSSA’s ESPN Elite Super NIT along with Triple Crown’s St. Augustine Fall Nationals.

They have done this with a roster that looks like a “Who’s Who?” line-up of 2011 All Americans. In addition to returning their existing line-up of 2011 All America players including; Jordan Alvarez, Armando Sierra, Yohandy Morales (TBS Player of the Year), OJ Borroto, and Santiago Garavito, the MVP have added an impressive line-up of other TBS All Americans including; Jake Holland, Taylor Clapp (South Florida Stealth) and Yordoni Carmona (Mo Steel). Other major talent additions include; Jonathon Vega and Edgar Quintaz (formerly of Mo Steel). These players complement other excellent MVP players including Michael Sagaro & Michael Uz who play a key role in their team’s success.

With this powerful line-up, it is easy to see why the 2012 edition of the 11U MVP is winning in such a dominating fashion. However, it’s a sure bet that neither Southern California’s Oakley Stingrays (last year’s Elite 32, NYBC, and TBS #1 National Champions) nor their cross-town rival Team Miami (last year’s NYBC finalists and TBS#2) are not standing still. (We’ll look at what these two teams are doing for 2012 in separate features - Coming soon).

But clearly, with such a powerful and explosive line-up to draw on, one has to believe that this team will not only be a formidable contender this year, but a strong contender to walk away with some very big championship titles – that may very well include the National Title in 2012.

14U Player to Watch – Zach Watson

14U Player to Watch – Zach Watson

For All America Zach Watson, of the New Orleans Banditos, One Elite 32 Win and a National Title is not enough . . . . He's working hard to repeat

By Ernie Rapiere

This week’s featured player to watch in 2012 is Zachary "Zach" Watson, the shortstop who will anchor the infield for the 2012 14U New Orleans Banditos - formerly the Tanel Voodoo. Zach was among several outstanding players from the 2011 Voodoo who were named as TBS 13U All America Players last season. He was a key reason why they not only won the 2011 Elite 32, but also finished their 13U season ranked as the #1 team in the nation by TravelBallSelect.com. He now stands at 5'10" and weighs 145lbs and growing.

During the 2011 season, this shortstop was also the lead off batter for the Voodoo and also the Shreveport Prospects.  This past season, he led off several games with a homerun. The longest of these, was a 380 footer that he crushed in a Super NIT in Sulphar, Louisiana. Imagine how that can rattle opposing pitchers.  Zach wrapped up his 13U 2011 season with a batting average over the 600 mark along with slamming 20 homeruns over the fences.  That number brought his lifetime number to over 200 homeruns. His first homerun cleared the fences when he was 7 years old.

His other strength’s comes from his speed and quickness. At shortstop, he can cover a large territory on the field and his quick hands enable him to deny many base hits. As young 10 year old, team mates and fans to described him as a “gazelle” because of the amazing way that he could move and jump. As a base runner, he is one of the fastest runners on a team that is blessed with speed.  Once on base, he and his fast teammates have a competitive goal to steel all the way to 3rd before the next batter finishes – thus setting up their team by getting into quick scoring position.

Coach Richie Muhleisen, skipper of last year’s Voodoo and this year’s New Orleans Banditos says, “I believe that Zach is the best lead off in the country. Last season as a 13 year old, he led our team in homeruns and in “on base” percentage. Also, I feel that anyone would be hard pressed to find a better shortstop in the nation. He’s a complete 5 tool player....this kid was the spark plug for our success in winning the Elite 32 this past season.

In addition to anchoring his team at shortstop, Zach is also an excellent pitcher who is featured in the Voodoo’s outstanding rotation of pitchers. He is a right hander with a fast ball in the low 80's.

In addition to playing with the Voodoo this past season, Zach was invited to play up with the 14U’s on the famed Chet Lemon’s Juice team. He was a key contributor to their winning the NABF World Series in Southaven Mississippi.  He led the team in batting as he went 19 for 24 during the 6 games of the tournament.

This year, Zach is an 8th grader at Calhoun Middle School in Calhoun, Louisiana.  Next year he will be playing at West Ouachita High School for Coach Mitch Thomas. Zach is also a multi-sport athlete who plays on the school’s football and basketball teams.  But, when he is not playing sports, he loves to deer hunt.  He is also very active in his youth group at church.

Heading into the 2012 season, Zach has set his goal toward doubling up on his preparation and working as hard as he can to help his team repeat the success they had last season. His team went 36-3, won 3 USSSA Super NIT’s and capped it all of with a great win at the Elite 32. Say’s Zach, “It would be great to repeat as Elite 32 Champions”.   Given the exceptional line-up of talent that joins Zach to make up the 2012 New Orleans Banditos, that is clearly a realistic goal.

Among these elite Banditos players, you can bet that Zach Watson will once again stand tall among the prominent players to watch in 2012.
