Gilbert, Arizona – Tuesday, December 30: USSSA Winter Nationals Super NIT – Championships. The Lamorinda Monarchs are the 2008 11U Winter National Champions. With this win, the Monarchs have won an early berth in the 2009 Elite Championships to be held in Disney’s wide world of Sports in Kissimmee, Florida during early August.
In the early game, the Arizona Blaze edged past the Longhorns by a score of 4-3. The Lamorinda Monarchs found the going a bit easier as they slammed past the Simi-Valley Terror by a score of 9-1, thus earning their place in the Championship game in impressive fashion.
In the championship game held at 2:00PM and proved to be an exciting game that went down to the wire before the Monarchs out lasted the Blaze by a score of 3-2 to claim the Championship title.

With this win, the Cougars have won an early berth in the 2009 Elite Championships to be held in Disney’s wide world of Sports in Kissimmee, Florida during late July.
The Cougars dominated this event, outscoring their opponents 52-11 throughout this event. The top seeded Cougars opened the championship rounds of play by beating the Arizona Thunder by a score of 8-1 to advance to face the SVG Cobras (CA) in the championship game.
The Cobras worked hard to make a game of it and managed to keep the championship game close before the Cougars put the game away by scoring 7 runs and allowing the Cobras only 3 runs.
The Cougars certainly made a statement in this tournament as they laid the foundation to repeat as USSSA Elite champions during their upcoming 2009 12U season.

Peoria, Arizona – Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - The Reds of Chandler, Arizona are the 2008 14U Winter National Champions. With this win, the Reds have won an early berth in the 2009 Elite Championships to be held in Disney’s wide world of Sports in Kissimmee, Florida during late July.
There were no easy games on Championship Day as all teams came ready to play. In the first game, the Chandler Reds edged the Arizona HEAT by a score of 2-1 to face the San Diego Stars who also squeezed past the Utah Horns Select by a score of 8-7.
The finals proved to be an equally close game, but in the end, the Chandler Reds outlasted an outstanding San Diego Stars team by a score of 7-5.

14U Majors Day Three Seed Play Summary
Day three of the Super NIT Winter Nationals seed play found the 16th seeded Arizona Inferno starting the day by beating the number 18 seed Arcadia Rat Pack by a score of 8-5. The Inferno revived their team this year by acquiring key pickups from the disassembled Mud Hens. Coach Dan Grosvenor has a lot of faith in his Inferno team. He says they are just a few steps away from being in the mix and contending with the top teams in Arizona. Unfortunately they had to play the #1 seed next. The Chandler Reds were seeded # 1 and had only 6 runs scored against them in pool play. The Reds beat the Inferno and the #9 seed Chandler Black Sox to advance to the Semis on Tuesday at Peoria Sports Complex.
The number 5 seed, Arizona Heat bats and defense smoked the 12th seed Rio Rico Torros 10 to 0. The Heat then beat the 4th seed Blaze in similar fashion with a score of 9 to 1 to advance to the semis and play the Reds.
The number 2 seed San Diego Stars sent the 15th seed Colorado Broomfield Yankees back home then outshined the 10th seed Sun Kings who had just finished upsetting 7th seed Arizona Blackhawks. Earlier the 14 seed Arizona Big Dawgs pitching was truly “lights out” as they shutout the 3rd seeded San Jose Lights Out team by a score of 3 to 0. Not only are the Lights out but the 6th seeded Utah Horns spanked the Big Dawgs and shut them out too by a score of 5 to 0. Now the Horns will play the Stars in the semis on Tuesday. The semi-final match-ups will be the Heat vs. the Reds and the Stars vs. the Horns.
AZ Super NIT Results -14U Majors Day Three Seed Play Summary
The Arizona Heat was hotter than the Blaze as Michael Valenzuela pitched an outstanding game that allowed his defense to work with him for a run rule 9-1 finish.
The bats were on fire as the Heat made a five run two out rally in the top of the first inning. With two outs the number three batter David Real singled. Nick Affronti walked as well as Nick Giannini. The next batter Brock Hartley sent a double to left field. Brandon LeBoeuf singled up the middle. Cameron Ross got all the way to third base as the Blaze made an error. By the time the Blaze got the third out it was five to nothing top of the first.
The Blaze bats did not respond as Valenzuela and the Heat sat down six batters in a row, including four strikeouts and two groundouts in the first two innings. The Blaze never really threatened but got one run in the fourth inning. Two triples and a few singles was all the Heat allowed. Valenzuela’s strikeouts totaled nine against the Blaze which happened to be the number of runs the Heat racked up as they move on to the semi-finals against the highly ranked Chandler Reds of Arizona. Final: Heat 9-Blaze 1.

The San Diego Stars machine has put a team together that has won a number of championships and now the stars seek to rule the night when it comes to the Super NIT 13U majors division of the Winter Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona. The Stars Team by Pony finished off the Arizona Blaze on Monday night and will advance to the Semi-finals on Tuesday. Coach Mark Przybylak of the Stars said "We had some trouble with the way that the great cutter Poole (#47) was throwing for the Blaze".
However, the Stars still got eight hits. Tyler Hofstee threw a complete game for the Stars on Monday night. The game was secured by the offense in the middle innings when the Stars got a double then a triple, an error, and two more runs scored.
The Blaze threatened late with a solo home run powered over the wall by Brian Leitz. However, it was not enough as the Blaze ended the game with a fly out to Centerfield. The Stars continue shining and will play in the semis at the Big League Dreams on Tuesday.
Final score: Stars Key Stars Statistics Against the Blaze, Tommy Edman went 2 for 3. Alex Guinettwas 2 for 3 with a triple. These two combined for half of the hits. The winning pitcher was Tyler Hofstee.

Headed into the last of the 7th inning the Nogales Roadrunners from Arizona were leading the 13U Arizona Nitro by a score of 4-3. Three outs were left when Gerard Hernandez in the bottom of the seventh hit a 300-foot solo shot over the wall in the Angels stadium at Big League Dreams in Gilbert, Arizona. The fans went crazy! With the score tied team Nitro needed one more run to move on to the semi-finals.
The next batter flew out to left field. One down. The next batter Alex Verdugo got to first with a walk. He advanced to second on a fielder’s choice. Two down! The Roadrunners intentionally walked the next batter then changed pitchers as Alex Larson came to the plate for the Nitro. The Roadrunners felt confident with #29 Cesar Salazar on the mound. A tie would mean extra innings. Salazar brought the heat on the first pitch. Straight down the middle, unhittable and strike one! Larson fouled off the next pitch. Strike two! Two outs, plus one more strike, then overtime would begin. The next pitch was a strike in the zone and Larson launched a single into straight centerfield. Alex Verdugo rounded third and scored! Game over five to four! Nitro (AZ) advances to the semifinals to face the top ranked Chandler Reds (AZ).
The San Diego Stars by Pony (Ca.), and the Rawlings Elite (Ca.), will also face-off in the semis on Tuesday.

Nano Burrough pitched the first five innings for the Nitro. Tyler Frost pitched the final two. Gerard Hernandez hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Kobie Foppe was four for four with a double and two RBI’s. Alex Verdugo was two for three with a double, a walk, and the game’s winning run. Head coach “Jerry” told the boys he loved them and would never forget them or the great game they just won together because they played together like a real team should. Kissimmee, Florida – Dec 27 through Dec 29th: The Florida Fire (Orlando, Florida) are the 12U champions of this year’s USSSA Winter World Series.
The Fire had finished an outstanding 2008 11U summer season, ranked #7 nationally by TravelBallSelect. This championship gives them a significant boost in momentum as they move into their 2009 12U season. The Fire went 3 and 0 in pool play, scoring 30 runs while not allowing a single run to be scored against them.
In the championship rounds of play, the Fire beat the Barons of Dekalb, Georgia by a score of 10-1 and then moved on to the championship game where they disposed of the Palmetto Patriots of Florence, South Carolina by a score of 10-2. This win caps off successful Fall/Winter 2008 season for the Florida Fire where they achieved an overall record of 23 wins and only one loss. Look for the Fire to once again be a highly ranked team and a top contender for to win the Elite-24 Championship in 2009.
