14U Majors Day Three Seed Play Summary

Day three of the Super NIT Winter Nationals seed play found the 16th seeded Arizona Inferno starting the day by beating the number 18 seed Arcadia Rat Pack by a score of 8-5. The Inferno revived their team this year by acquiring key pickups from the disassembled Mud Hens. Coach Dan Grosvenor has a lot of faith in his Inferno team. He says they are just a few steps away from being in the mix and contending with the top teams in Arizona. Unfortunately they had to play the #1 seed next. The Chandler Reds were seeded # 1 and had only 6 runs scored against them in pool play. The Reds beat the Inferno and the #9 seed Chandler Black Sox to advance to the Semis on Tuesday at Peoria Sports Complex.

The number 5 seed, Arizona Heat bats and defense smoked the 12th seed Rio Rico Torros 10 to 0. The Heat then beat the 4th seed Blaze in similar fashion with a score of 9 to 1 to advance to the semis and play the Reds.
The number 2 seed San Diego Stars sent the 15th seed Colorado Broomfield Yankees back home then outshined the 10th seed Sun Kings who had just finished upsetting 7th seed Arizona Blackhawks. Earlier the 14 seed Arizona Big Dawgs pitching was truly “lights out” as they shutout the 3rd seeded San Jose Lights Out team by a score of 3 to 0. Not only are the Lights out but the 6th seeded Utah Horns spanked the Big Dawgs and shut them out too by a score of 5 to 0. Now the Horns will play the Stars in the semis on Tuesday. The semi-final match-ups will be the Heat vs. the Reds and the Stars vs. the Horns.
